We are excited to announce that our 2020 Refuge Awards Dinner is going virtual! This free, virtual event will be held on Thursday, October 22nd, 2020 from 7pm to 8pm ET. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Dear Friend,

By now, we hope that you received our Save the Date to our virtual awards! This year, we moved our 2020 Refuge Awards Dinner virtually, allowing everyone around the country to participate! Every year, the National Wildlife Refuge Association honors the outstanding accomplishments by refuge managers, refuge employees, volunteers, and Friends groups through our Refuge System Awards program.  We are excited to be honoring these refuge heroes virtually so anyone from all of the country can participate. Not only will we be giving out our awards, but we will also have exciting programming from special guests!

This year, we are having a Friend’s Group competition! The winner will receive:

  • One hour of advocacy consulting from NWRA during a board meeting,
  • One hour of fundraising consulting from NWRA during a board meeting,
  • And one video highlighting your Friends Group!

The Friends Group that has the most registrants for the Virtual Awards Event will win! To register, click here, and be sure to include your Friends Group name is the “Friends Group Optional” space. We will tally up the registrants during the event and then announce the winner! Each registrant has to have a different name and email address. We understand that timing can be difficult so you don’t need to actually attend to win. We will send out a video after the event highlighting the winners! Be sure to spread the word to your board, volunteers, friends, and family to get the most registrants and win this great prize!

We look forward to seeing you at the virtual awards ceremony!

More information about the video prize:

Friends Groups have amazing stories to tell.  With so many passionate people working together for such an important cause, finding amazing and relatable stories to tell is easy.  Telling them is hard.

Here at the National Wildlife Refuge Association, we believe (and have lots of data to back this up) that online video will continue to grow as the most effective method of telling stories about National Wildlife Refuges and the folks that support them. The combination of images, dialogue, and music makes video a uniquely powerful medium—one that can capture imaginations and stir emotions. Studies have shown that nonprofits frequently leverage video to communicate with their supporters and the public.

What might be a bit more surprising is the wide variety of ways videos can be used to communicate and inspire.  We know that video can help people know who you are and spread awareness of your mission, vision and work. We know that video can inspire action, spread the word about your successes and help you fundraise. We want to help you use video and storytelling to address your most pressing needs and are offering to partner with Friends Groups to do just that.  In association with the 2020 Refuge Awards, which will air on October 22, 2020; the National Wildlife Refuge Association is offering up a contest for the Friends Group that registers the most number of registrants.  The Friends group with the most number of folks registered to watch will receive a capacity building package that includes a video production about your refuge and the work of your Friends Group that you can use to promote all the work you do.  We’ll support the effort by featuring your Friends group and refuge in National Wildlife Refuge communications - and help spread the word about your work.
